In the future, minimising the environmental impact of what we eat will be critical. Our vision is to be a forerunner in large-scale sustainable fish farming with minimal impact on the environment. Our goal is that our customers can enjoy fresh and tasty fish that is produced locally and in an environmentally friendly manner, all year round.

We founded Fifax in the year 2012. Since then, we have worked every day to be able to deliver better fish for the world. We believe in ecologically sustainable fish farming and clean food. That is why we farm rainbow trout with a modern recirculating aquaculture system at our production facility in Åland.

Our production facility in Eckerö, Åland Islands is ASC certified since 2022.

Fifax’s vision is to be a forerunner in large-scale sustainable fish farming with minimal impact on the environment

Our advanced production facility is one of the few large-scale land-based fish farms already operating in Northern Europe.

In production, we use our ultra-intensive implementation of the RAS method, which is based on an almost completely closed water circulation loop. Inside the facility, the fish live in large land-based tanks. The water used in production is pumped from the Baltic Sea, after which the water is purified, and it circulates in the RAS system again and again. This method allows us to create a growth environment where we can take better care of the fish, while minimising any side effects upon the environment.

Our strengths are favourable location, ecology, and innovation

Due to our location, we have excellent connections to our key markets in Finland and Sweden. All the electricity needed in our production is produced with renewable wind energy.

The recirculating aquaculture system method revolutionises fish farming in many ways. Fish farming utilising this method has become more optimised and efficient, placing us in a better position to take care of both the fish and the environment. Our objective is to gain a leading position in land-based fish farming, so that our customers can enjoy locally and sustainably produced, fresh and healthy rainbow trout.
